This and That (Dancing Pastors & Mountain Hikes)
Dancing Pastors
This picture cost Stephen and I one hundred dollars. We went to a youth group fundraiser at our church a few weekends ago that included a silent auction and a live auction. We wanted to buy something to help out the youth and Stephen decided he would bid on a large robot in the silent auction that he planned to give to one of the kids in the church. Near the end of the silent auction Stephen went to put in his final bid and found an 8-year-old boy standing beside the robot with his hand on the bid sheet. The boy's dad had just put down the highest bid and this boy was standing there imploring everyone passing by to please not bid so that he and his brothers could get the robot. Obviously Stephen couldn't bid against an adorable little boy who had his heart set on the toy. So the last thing to bid on in the live auction was a chance to see our senior pastor and associate pastor dance the YMCA. It cost us $100 but here is proof that we got what we paid for - the pastors were even joined by the rest of the church staff. Was it worth it? Well, at least the youth surpassed their fundraising goal to get to the conference they wanted to go to. Mountain HikesThis weekend was beautiful and Stephen and I wanted to head into the mountains to Kananskis Country and hike Mount Indefatigable for some exercise. We drove all the way out there to find that the Kananaskis still isn't completely open for the season and a short way into Kananaskis Country, the road was blocked. We ended up turning around and going onto a side road where we found a very scenic creek with a little waterfall. There were no trails so we forged our own. On our way home we stopped at a couple of other camp/picnic sites to explore them as well. Most of the time when we go to the Kanaskis we get to see some fun mountain wild life - moose, deer, bears, elk, bighorn sheep - but this time we only saw a big fat squirrel, two trail horses and a herd of cows. The cows seemed a little bewildered when we stopped on the side of the road to look at them. They must not get that very often. :-)
